Job Description:


5-D Systems, a KRATOS Company, is seeking a highly motivated Program Manager to provide management, leadership, and oversight for a development aircraft for the systems and software engineering effort. The program manager is responsible for ensuring delivery of engineering products. Projects are managed “end-to-end” and include planning, design, analysis, procurement, testing, and verification activities. In addition, the program manager will contribute to strategic planning, business development, and process development. The position will interface with internal and external project team members and company personnel.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading in all stages of a program execution and is responsible for ensuring success through thorough planning, scheduling, execution, and monitoring of all project tasks.
  • Creating and maintaining the program plan to actively monitor and control program cost, schedule, technical efforts to meet contract requirements.
  • Participating in the development and updating of Program Management Processes.
  • Responsible for delivering high quality program deliverables on cost and on schedule.
  • Leading Risk and Opportunity Management activities.
  • Traveling to customer locations as needed (<25% travel).
  • Managing complex activities including development of new concepts and techniques to solve problems based on analysis and evaluation of data.
  • Communicating and supporting internal and external resources (staff, facilities, and equipment).
  • Creating project milestone plans, schedules, and contract work breakdown structures as appropriate.
  • Responsible for project budget, schedule, monitoring, and completion of goals and milestones in accordance with approved plans.
  • Performing in-depth program and technical reviews.
  • Managing ongoing contractual project requirements (schedule, technical, and budgetary).
  • Developing proposals and cost estimates for new and existing customers based on customer requirements and Kratos business practices.
  • Providing strategic thinking towards technical innovation and customer engagement.
  • Maintaining on-going communication with team, suppliers, customers, and leadership.

Experience and Skills:
  • BS/BA or higher degree in engineering or science.
  • Direct program leadership experience with cross-functional development teams.
  • Seven (7) years’ experience minimum, including three (3) years’ demonstrating program or engineering leadership of aerospace and defense programs.
  • A U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher (or the ability to obtain such a clearance if needed).
  • Strong focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and understands corporate and program finance.
  • Exhibits sound judgment, builds consensus, and motivates teams.
  • Ability to provide clear guidance and display strong leadership.
  • Duties may be broadly defined and assignments may be received in the form of expected results, due dates and general guidance; thus, the program manager must creatively select, apply and modify approaches from established policies/procedures and precedence to achieve success.
  • Development program experience in conjunction with solving multi-disciplinary problems.
  • Hands-on hardware and software integration and test experience.
  • Self-directed, sharp analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and capable of working effectively in a dynamic environment, technical leadership capabilities.
  • Results-oriented, sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
  • Experience in defense industry required; experience in aircraft is a plus.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred.
